Hello, I am Karen Scherer, and
I have the honor of being Illinois Buddy Poppy Chairman for the 2007 – 2008
year. I am looking forward to working with everyone on such a worthwhile
program.
The Poppy is such a powerful
little red flower that calls out to all Americans the message it stands for,
which is “To Honor the Dead by Helping the Living”. We must remember and honor
all who paid the ultimate price for this great country. The way to do this is
to help our living veterans by promoting our Buddy Poppy Campaign each and every
day, not just certain holidays.
There are many ways to promote
Poppy Sales, and the proceeds will go into our Auxiliary Relief Fund. The fund
provides help and services to our veterans and their families in our local
communities.
We need to reach out to our
community and teach them the power of this flower in the “Tradition of Caring.”
