Hello and welcome to the 2008-2009 year. My name is Sharon Hollingsworth and I am privileged to serve as the Department Buddy Poppy Chairman this year. I look forward to meeting and working with all of you on this very important and worthwhile program. Everyone, I’m sure, recognizes this beautiful “little red flower”; but, I wonder how many people truly understand its significance. I feel it is our duty to educate folks what this flower really means to each of us and what we do with the funds generated by our Buddy Poppy Drives. We also need to remember that we DO NOT SELL Buddy Poppies. Everyone should have a Buddy Poppy, if they desire one, regardless of their ability to donate to the campaign. Buddy Poppy Days can be held at any time throughout the year, not just at Memorial Day or Veteran’s Day. There are many ways to promote the Buddy Poppy through the year that will be discussed in our different bulletins and materials.
