Chris Breyne, Chairman My name is Christine Breyne and I have been asked to be chairman for Cancer Aid & Research for the year 2007-2008. I’m honored to be Chairman for this program. This program affects every one of us in one or another. We’ve either had a family member or a friend who has had Cancer. Nobody wants to consider that they might develop cancer, but the facts show the odds are not in your favor. As a woman the chances are 1 in 3 that you may develop cancer in your lifetime. But together, we can overcome the odds and improve the chances that you or a loved one will never have to experience this terrible disease. We must continue to educate everyone on Cancer and how to detect it. Early detection and prevention are very important. By early detection and treatment a patient has a chance of recovery. After a year as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary you are eligible for a cancer grant. I know this is not a large amount of money but every little bit helps. Please contact your treasure or me for this information. National is suggesting collecting “Coins for Cancer” as a fundraising campaign for the Ladies Auxiliary VFW 2007-2008. Our Department President has chosen "Coins for Cancer" as her special Cancer Project. This fundraiser is for Cancer Aid & Research. Our goal is to find a cure and this way everyone can get involved. Research is very expensive so we need to raise a lot of coins so a cure can be found. The Department of Illinois has a very proud Ladies Auxiliary who I know will be there to show their support. One of my person goals is to show support to some one who has cancer or their family. Extend your hand and your heart by volunteering, mentoring or by being a caregiver. You might just have to be there to listen and show that you care. Don’t regret not doing the right thing. Below are just a few web sites for you to get information from and I’ll be giving more throughout the year. Please share your ideas with me and with the other Auxiliaries throughout the state. We are in this together and must work as a team to find the cure. www.cancerprofiler.nexcure.com www.cancer.org. American Cancer Society www.komen.org Susan G.
