Mercie Woolfolk, Chairman
Hello to ALL:
Over the past sixty years, the Cancer Aid &
Research program has declared war on cancer. The strategies are to provide
education to the general public and our members on cancer detection, prevention,
and treatment; make available financial assistance to eligible Auxiliary members;
and fund cancer research institutes. I was delighted to hear that the three (3)
major networks, ABC, CBS, and NBC will join together in the near future and air
a segment on CANCER. What a great educational tool!
Treatments for cancer have become more effective
with better testing procedures to identify the disease in time to cure it.
However, researchers are also discovering more ways to prevent defected cells
from turning into cancer in the first place. So, it is important to have funds
available in the Cancer Aid and Research Program to make donations to hospitals
or other research facilities who do research for cure and better treatment for
cancer. This is why it is even more important that each Auxiliary throughout the
state meet its $2.00 per member quota. Our Department President, Jan Morrow, has chosen "Riding a Rainbow for a Cure" as her special project for the District Presidents. As each District President promotes her fund-raising campaign at your Auxiliary, let's actively participate by making generous contributions to support her efforts in raising additional funds for Cancer Aid and Research. I know “Together We Can Achieve the Extraordinary” and have a successful fundraising campaign for the Ladies Auxiliary VFW 2008-2009. Also, let’s consider working with our birthdays as a special way to remind us that every donation to the Cancer Aid and Research program help brings us closer to finding a cure and provide financial aid to members with the disease. Think of this way…One’s birthday is a special time. It is a day to celebrate, give thanks for life and the years on earth. So, on those special birth dates would you give extra generously to our Cancer Aid and Research program? “Together We Can Achieve the Extraordinary”. As we work together on the Cancer Aid and Research program objectives, I look forward to our extraordinary achievements.
