Diane Hawk, Chairman Hello, I am Diane Hawk and it is my honor to serve as the Department of Illinois Ladies Auxiliary as Department Chief of Staff and Extension Chairman. My job entails working with the District Presidents, District Deputy Chiefs of Staff as directed by the Department President. Our main tasks include: To institute new Auxiliaries at bachelor VFW Posts Ensure Auxiliaries that are struggling get the assistance they need Assist members of disbanded Auxiliaries transfer to working Auxiliaries Mentor all members to strengthen our Auxiliaries Save Auxiliaries that disbanded within a year of losing their charter Notice that we are TEAMS. There are many different kinds of teams, but the most important part of a team is that they work together to achieve their goals. This Auxiliary TEAMS needs to try and recruit new members, then explain and assist them in understanding the purposes of the Ladies Auxiliary. We must teach them our programs and guide them to reach for excellence in them. We must retain our current membership by not letting our sister’s burn out from doing the same things year after year. Give those new members a chance to take on the challenge, but be there to help them when they stumble or ask questions. Every member has something to contribute, if they are 16 they have more energy. If they are 80 they have more knowledge. Combine these two and what a formidable chain we form. As it says in the initiation ceremony each member is “adding another link to the golden but invisible chain, which unites us.” That also means we must try and extend our hand and reinstate our sisters that have left for one reason or another. There are many reasons to leave and I can think of only one reason to stay, the veterans that made us eligible to belong. They have given much for our freedom and we should be out there fighting day after day to get them everything they were promised. Some of sisters have forgotten and they just need reminded. We all need to remember that veteran and “Catch the Spirit in Serving Our Veterans” and continue our “Tradition of Caring”. This will ensure our organization will last for many years and we will grow in the decades to come. Please feel free to contact me and I will help in any way that I can.
