Janet Long, Chairman Mary Hartenberger, Co-Chairman Mary and I want to welcome you to another year of Hospital work. We feel it is a privilege to be the Chairmen of this important program and we want to congratulate you and look forward to working with you during this 2007 – 2008 term of office. Donna has selected “Catch the Spirit in serving Our Veterans” as her theme and what better way to Catch the Spirit than making the time to visit our Veterans who are confined in the VA Medical Centers and VA Nursing Homes as well as local Hospitals and Nursing Homes. Every Auxiliary has the capability of participating in this program by making: Hospital Pledge Hospital General Fund Hospital Donations Visits to residents Sponsor parties Remember that all monetary donations must go through the Department Office in order to receive your credit. We continue to participate in the Hospitalized Veterans Writing Program and this year the National Organization has asked that we take on “Remember our Hospitalized Veterans on Veterans Day 2007, by thanking them for our freedom”. We can do this by visiting the Veterans on the Holiday (or close to it) at Nursing Homes, Hospitals, Veterans’ Homes and Veterans’ Medical Centers. Present them with a small remembrance, such as Operation Uplink Cards, Buddy Poppies and treats. Wear your Auxiliary uniform showing you represent the Ladies Auxiliary VFW. Get the youth of your community involved. Many students have community service requirements, check with the local schools let them know of our program and ask them to get involved. The James H. Parke Memorial Youth Scholarship is a special award for the youth. Let them know about it. There are also awards for “Outstanding Hospital Volunteers”. We really need to blow our own horn and let the world know what we do and what better way than by recognizing one of our own. One major change in reporting this year is that it is the Auxiliary Chairman’s responsibility to see that all reports are sent to the respective chairman. Report form 1 and 2 are to be made out before or during your visit, making sure the VAVS Representative signs the form, make a copy for your Auxiliary file and mails the forms to Hospital Chairman, Janet Long. Form 3 is to be made out and sent to Co-chairman, Mary Hartenberger. Check the Program for awards and deadline dates. Contact us if you have any questions. We are here to help you help our Veterans and remember: EVERY DAY IS VETERANS DAY THANK THEM FOR YOUR FREEDOM
