It
is an honor to serve as the Illinois Patriotic Instructor for this year.
For 93 years the Auxiliary has maintained the spirit of
Patriotism that our Founders began. Continuing that tradition this year we will
show our love for all by promoting Patriotism to
Catch The Spirit In Serving Our
Veterans.
What is Patriotism? My dictionary defines
Patriot
as one who loves his country and
zealously guards its welfare.
Patriotism
is defined as Devotion to one's country.
PATRIOTISM IS:
Knowing that the American Flag symbolizes the
Tradition of
Caring.
This certainly creates a challenge for our organization to keep the spirit of
patriotism alive. How can this be accomplished? It is our duty as Patriotic
Instructors to promote patriotism, to teach proper Flag etiquette; to see that
all are instructed in the Pledge of Allegiance; and to initiate Patriotic
Holiday programs. As it says in our part of the Ritual: "Let us be ever mindful
of our duties as members of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars
of the United States, to see that our Flag is never desecrated and to teach the
people of our land what this means and to see that all are instructed in the
pledge of the Flag."
Make it a goal in your Auxiliary to have a Flag in every school room, home,
church, library. etc. Take the time to educate them when you present them with
the the Flag and encourage them to fly it daily, not just on holidays.
Help keep
patriotism alive. Work closely with your Americanism Chairman so that everyone
continues to Catch
The Spirit In Serving Our Veterans.
