Hello – I am Janet Long, your Department Hospital Chairman for the 2010 – 2011 term of office. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
I am looking forward to another outstanding year working for our hospitalized veterans. Long before the Ladies Auxiliary came into being many ladies volunteered in the hospitals taking care of the returning war wounded. The Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW will continue this great work as long as we have veterans in need. Visiting residents and sponsoring parties is one way to brighten their days. Continue sending your donations, Hospital Pledge, Hospital General Fund and TLC Day.
All donations must go through the Department Treasurer in order for your Auxiliary to receive credit. Use the “James H. Parke Memorial Youth Scholarship” as a draw to get the youth of your community involved. We will continue to participate in the “Hospitalized Veterans Writing Program” and the “Outstanding Volunteer of the Year”. There will be more information on these programs in the Bulletins. Big change this year – There is only one report form to fill out for the Hospital Program and this can be done on line. Don’t wait till the end of the year, fill out and send in a report each time you volunteer in a VA Medical Center, VA Nursing Home, Community Hospital or a Community Nursing Home.
Department President Beverly Beyer has chosen, as her special project, to help restore the World War II Memorial and to help with the refurbishing of the domicilaries located at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy. Please send all earmarked donations to the Department Treasurer. All Auxiliaries making a donation to the President’s Special Project will receive a citation at the Department Convention in June 2011. Our National President’s theme “United By Love for Our Veterans and Country” goes hand in hand with Beverly’s theme of “The Cardinal Rule – Our Veterans”.
