Ladies this program seems like a lot to do, but when you break it down to do the things required during a certain month you’ll be reported the very first month of the new Auxiliary year.

Let’s start with July 4th. Were you in a parade, did you hand out flags? If you did, report it. This brings us to August, school starts. Contact your local administrator to see if you can give a program to classes on “How to Fold the Flag” and respect to the flag. Take some time to talk to the teachers about another program where a local veteran comes to talk to the children. When these teachers have these programs for us, nominate that teacher for the National Citizenship Education Teacher Award. You can get all the information from the VFW website at www.vfw.org. What an honor for the teacher who receives it.

The “new” project this year is for the whole month of September. It’s called Suicide Awareness Month. What we are trying to do is bring awareness to everyone of the alarming spike of suicides in our military. We are requesting that each Auxiliary Sister wear a teardrop sticker daily as a symbol of our sorrow for every soldier who takes his or her own life. The teardrop is available for download at www.ladiesauxvfw.org. Print this on your own sticker-backed printer paper and wear one everyday of September. Carry some with you to hand out to anyone who wants to join us in showing their support.

POW/MIA day is September 16 attend or hold a ceremony to show our respect and patriotism for all those who are still missing. If you can’t attend or hold a ceremony, hand out POW/MIA flags to local business.

There are many things you can do to get reported before December 31, 2011 so let’s do it.

Loyalty Day is May 1st. This is a day where we can show our gratitude to fellow citizens on what love of our country means to us. It’s a program where we can publicly express our sincere gratitude for all who serve our community. If you can’t have an event, print up a citation to give to them.

Ladies, I Believe that you can Achieve these programs and by doing so we shall “Step Up- To leave no Veteran Behind”
